DOTr announces temporary halt in beep™ concessionary card issuance for year-end system maintenance

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) wishes to advise the commuting public of a scheduled temporary suspension in the issuance of beep™ concessionary cards (Senior Citizen, PWD, and Student cards) at all rail stations starting this holiday week.

This brief pause is necessary to facilitate essential system maintenance and backend upgrades that aim to improve the efficiency and security of the automated fare collection system.

  • Suspension Period: Effective immediately through the end of the 2025 Christmas and New Year holiday season.

  • Affected Services: New applications and physical issuance of discounted concessionary cards at LRT-1, LRT-2, and MRT-3 stations.

  • Resumption Date: Regular issuance operations are expected to resume in early January 2026, following the completion of the system audit.

The DOTr clarifies that existing concessionary cards remain fully functional. Commuters who already possess valid beep™ cards may continue to use them for travel and top them up at any authorized reloading station or kiosk without interruption.

“Our team is utilizing the holiday period to conduct vital technical maintenance to ensure that our fare systems remain robust and reliable,” said the DOTr in a statement. “We are committed to enhancing the commuter experience, and these proactive steps are part of our long-term goal to provide a more seamless digital ticketing environment.”

The Department expresses its gratitude to the public for their continued patience and cooperation as these upgrades are implemented. The DOTr, along with its rail partners, wishes all Filipino commuters a safe, joyful, and meaningful holiday season.
