MPTC intensifies holiday road safety, announces toll-free passage for Christmas and New Year

Metro Pacific Tollways Corporation (MPTC), the leading mobility infrastructure provider in the Philippines, has launched its comprehensive holiday traffic management program across its Luzon expressway network. To ensure a seamless travel experience for millions of Filipinos, MPTC is implementing full manpower deployment, strategic traffic measures, and a special toll-free initiative during peak holiday hours.

The intensified preparations cover the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX), Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway (SCTEX), NLEX Connector, Manila-Cavite Expressway (CAVITEX), and Cavite-Laguna Expressway (CALAX).

In a move to ease the financial and logistical burden on travelers, MPTC will implement a “Barrier-Up” toll-free passage during the following windows:

  • Christmas: December 24, 10:00 PM to December 25, 6:00 AM

  • New Year: December 31, 10:00 PM to January 1, 6:00 AM

“Our goal this holiday season is to have motorists spend less time on the road and more time with their families,” said MPIC and MPTC Chairman Manuel V. Pangilinan. “The toll-free initiative is our way of giving back. We hope it helps ease travel and brings more joy to Filipino homes during this festive season.”

To address the anticipated surge in vehicle volume, MPTC has outlined the following operational adjustments:

  • Suspension of Roadworks: All non-emergency lane closures and roadworks will be suspended from 6:00 AM on December 19, 2025, until 12:00 PM on January 5, 2026.

  • NLEX Express Lanes (Counterflow): To decongest Balintawak and Bocaue, counterflow lanes will be activated for Class 1 RFID vehicles:

    • Northbound: Fridays (5:00 PM – 8:00 PM) via Balintawak Expansion.

    • Southbound: Sundays (starting 2:00 PM) and Mondays (starting 5:00 AM) via Bocaue Expansion.

  • Enhanced Deployment: Additional traffic marshals, toll tellers, and emergency medical response teams will be stationed at key chokepoints.

  • Free Towing: Emergency towing services for Class 1 vehicles will be available to the nearest exit to keep traffic moving.

MPTC encourages motorists to utilize the MPT DriveHub app for real-time traffic updates, toll fee calculations, and instant RFID reloading.

To avoid delays at toll plazas, travelers are reminded to check their RFID balances or switch from cash to RFID for faster transit. For more information on RFID installation and reloading sites, visit www.easytrip.ph.
