To honor the dedicated service of the country’s defenders and first responders, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) is officially launching the “12 Days of Christmas” Free Ride Program. Starting this Christmas Eve, December 24, all uniformed personnel, veterans, and their immediate families can enjoy free commutes across the MRT-3, LRT-1, and LRT-2 rail lines.
This initiative, directed by the DOTr in coordination with the Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA), the Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3), and the Light Rail Manila Corporation (LRMC), serves as a holiday tribute to those who ensure the nation’s safety and security.
To avail of the free rides, eligible passengers simply need to present valid identification at the designated service gates of any station:
Uniformed Personnel: Members of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), Philippine National Police (PNP), Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP), and registered Security Guards.
Requirement: Present a valid Agency ID or Service ID.
Veterans and Families: Military veterans and their immediate family members.
Requirement: Present a valid Veterans ID issued by the Philippine Veterans Affairs Office (PVAO).
The “12 Days of Christmas” privilege is valid across the entire metro rail network:
MRT-3 (North Ave. to Taft Ave.)
LRT-1 (Fernando Poe Jr. to Dr. Santos/Baclaran)
LRT-2 (Antipolo to Recto)

“Our uniformed personnel and veterans often spend their holidays on duty, keeping our families safe. This is our way of saying ‘thank you’ and making it easier for them to spend time with their loved ones during the most wonderful time of the year,” said the Department of Transportation.
The program will run from December 24 through January 4, ensuring that our heroes have seamless and cost-free transportation throughout the peak of the holiday season.
The DOTr reminds all commuters to follow standard safety protocols and station rules to ensure a smooth and joyful travel experience for everyone.
