MRT-3 records 141 million passengers in 2025, sees continued growth in ridership and digital payments

The Department of Transportation Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (DOTr-MRT3) officially announced today a significant milestone in public service, recording a total of 141,626,536 passengers for the year 2025.

This figure represents a steady increase from the 135,885,336 passengers served in 2024, highlighting the rail line’s vital role in the daily lives of Metro Manila’s commuters and the growing preference for rail transport.

Beyond the overall ridership growth, the MRT-3 highlighted two key areas of success in 2025:

  • Social Responsibility: The #LibrengSakay (Free Ride) initiatives provided throughout the year benefited 3,315,657 passengers, ensuring that essential transportation remained accessible to vulnerable sectors and during special occasions.

  • Digital Transformation: Following the launch of the cashless payment system in July 2025, the rail line has seen a rapid shift in payment habits. In just six months, 3,737,499 passengers transitioned to cashless methods, reflecting a successful drive toward a more seamless, contactless commuting experience.

General Manager Michael J. Capati expressed his gratitude to the public for their continued support and reaffirmed the management’s commitment to modernization. “We promise to continue our efforts to make your commuting experience on our line even better,” said GM Capati. “Thank you very much for your trust, Ka-Riles! Look forward to the better service we bring to you this year.”

As the MRT-3 moves into 2026, the department remains focused on enhancing technical reliability, improving station facilities, and further integrating digital solutions to provide a world-class transit experience for every Filipino.
