As the maritime industry looks toward a modernized future, the National Maritime Polytechnic (NMP) concludes 2025 by announcing its most successful year since its inception in 1983. During the season finale of its flagship program, Usapang NMP Atbp, the agency reported unprecedented growth in training output, research milestones, and infrastructure development.
The NMP achieved a historic 229.72% training output for the year, issuing a staggering 22,972 training certificates. This represents the highest volume of certifications in the institution’s 42-year history, signaling a massive surge in the upskilling of the Filipino maritime workforce to meet global standards.
This surge in productivity was matched by a commitment to quality, with the agency maintaining an excellent 99.48% client satisfaction rating. This high level of public trust underscores NMP’s role as the premier government-owned maritime training and research center.
Beyond technical skills, NMP successfully completed two pivotal research studies in 2025 aimed at improving the social fabric of the industry:
-
Filipino Women in Maritime: A comprehensive look at the challenges and opportunities for female seafarers.
-
Seafarers’ Health and Wellness: A study focused on the mental and physical longevity of crew members at sea.
NMP demonstrated exceptional administrative efficiency with a projected 99% budget utilization rate, ensuring that public funds were directly translated into service delivery.
Looking ahead, the institution is poised for a massive transformation. The proposed 2026 budget of ₱427 million—the highest in the agency’s history—is earmarked for significant facility upgrades and new training infrastructure. This expansion includes ongoing strategic plans for NMP Luzon and NMP Mindanao, ensuring that world-class training is accessible to seafarers across the archipelago.
“This year was not just about numbers; it was about the first official visit of President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr., which signaled a new era of national support for maritime modernization,” said an NMP spokesperson. “While we have achieved record-breaking heights, our mission remains the same: to remain steadfast in serving the Filipino seafarers who move the world.”
