Mactan-Cebu International Airport prioritizes passenger comfort amid air-conditioning system repairs

Mactan-Cebu International Airport (MCIA) management issued a formal apology today to passengers and airport staff following a technical malfunction in the facility’s air-conditioning system that has affected terminal temperatures during the peak travel season.

The disruption was caused by simultaneous technical issues affecting both the primary operating units and the backup cooling systems. While technical teams immediately initiated troubleshooting and parts replacement, the system experienced recurring failures throughout the day despite temporary restoration efforts.

To alleviate the discomfort caused by the rising temperatures, MCIA has implemented the following immediate actions:

  • Deployment of Cooling Units: High-capacity air coolers have been stationed throughout the affected terminals.

  • Passenger Assistance: Complimentary bottled water is being distributed to travelers to ensure hydration.

  • Expert Coordination: Airport engineering teams are working around the clock in close coordination with third-party service providers to implement a permanent resolution.

Management is committed to a swift recovery of terminal climate control. Travelers can expect the following milestones:

  • Tonight: Additional industrial air coolers will be deployed to high-traffic areas.

  • By Tomorrow: Repairs on several key units are scheduled for completion, which will lead to a noticeable improvement in terminal temperatures.

  • By Thursday: Full restoration of the entire HVAC system is expected.

“We sincerely understand the inconvenience this has caused our passengers, especially during this busy travel period,” the MCIA management stated. “We acknowledge the concerns shared by the public and on social media, and we want to assure everyone that we are doing everything possible to restore a comfortable environment at the soonest possible time.”

MCIA thanks the public for their patience and remains dedicated to providing a world-class travel experience despite these unforeseen technical challenges.
