The Philippines secured multiple recognitions at the 2025 ASEAN Energy Awards, held on the sidelines of the 43rd ASEAN Ministers on Energy Meeting (AMEM) in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, underscoring the country’s growing momentum in energy efficiency, conservation, and sustainable energy management through strong public-private collaboration.
Among the awardees, Globe Telecom, Inc. was named Winner in the Energy Efficient Building – Special Submissions (Cutting-Edge Technology) category, recognized for deploying advanced solutions and system enhancements that improved energy performance across its operations. Solaris One was conferred 1st Runner-Up in the Green Building – Large category for its energy conscious design and operational strategies that promote efficient resource use and sustainability outcomes. Tagum Water Company, Inc. likewise earned 1st Runner-Up in the Energy Management in Buildings and Industries – Small and Medium Industries category, following initiatives that strengthened energy management systems and delivered measurable efficiency improvements.
In a separate set of recognitions, Semirara Mining and Power Corporation received 2nd Runner-Up in the CSR (Large) category of the ASEAN Coal Awards, highlighting corporate social responsibility initiatives implemented alongside its operations. The Philippines also garnered individual and youth distinctions. Former DOE Assistant Director Artemio P. Habitan received the ASEAN Excellence in Energy Management (Individual) award for sustained leadership in driving energy management practices and promoting a culture of efficiency.
Meanwhile, Ms. Francheskha Joy Panganiban Rembulat, a Multimedia Arts student from De La Salle Lipa and Mr. Jhun Jhun Q. Agustin, a teacher from Tarlac, placed among the top awardees in the ASEAN Energy Youth Awards, with Rembulat recognized for her infographic and Agustin for his video — both aimed at strengthening public awareness and engagement on clean energy and responsible energy use.
Energy Secretary Sharon S. Garin congratulated the Philippine awardees and emphasized the importance of translating best practices into scalable solutions that can be replicated across industries and communities.
“These recognitions affirm that Philippine organizations and advocates are delivering real, practical innovation — from smarter buildings and stronger energy management systems to youth-led communications that build wider public understanding,” Secretary Garin said. “Energy efficiency and conservation remain among the most immediate and cost-effective ways to strengthen energy security and reduce consumer exposure to volatile fuel costs. We hope these achievements encourage more companies, institutions, and local communities to pursue measurable energy performance improvements and help advance a cleaner, more resilient energy future.”
The ASEAN Energy Awards, spearheaded by the ASEAN Centre for Energy (ACE), serve as the region’s premier platform for recognizing outstanding contributions across energy efficiency, conservation, and sustainable energy development. The awards also reinforce regional cooperation by highlighting implementable solutions that strengthen energy security, improve system performance, and support the transition toward a lower-emissions energy future.
