The rhythmic beat of the drums and the vibrant chants of “Hala Bira! Pwera Pasma!” are officially back. The province of Aklan proudly announces the commencement of the world-renowned Ati-Atihan Festival, running from January 9 to 18, 2026.
As the oldest festival in the Philippines, the Ati-Atihan serves as the grand opening of the “Santo Niño Triumvirate,” preceding the Sinulog in Cebu and the Dinagyang in Iloilo. This year’s celebration promises an immersive blend of deep-rooted religious devotion and high-energy street revelry that honors the Holy Child (Santo Niño) and the historic peace pact between the Ati people and the Maraynon settlers.
The 2026 Ati-Atihan Festival features a packed schedule designed to captivate both local pilgrims and international tourists:
-
Sadsad Street Dancing: Watch as thousands of participants, their bodies painted in soot and clad in intricate tribal costumes, dance through the streets of Kalibo in a hypnotic display of unity.
-
Religious Processions: Join the solemn “Dawn Penitential Procession” and the grand “Transfer of the Santo Niño” that highlights the spiritual heart of the Aklanon people.
-
Modern Festivities: Experience the “Pausad” and various music festivals that bring a contemporary flair to the traditional week-long party.
Reaching the heart of the festivities has never been easier. Travelers coming from Central Visayas or connecting through international hubs are encouraged to fly via Mactan-Cebu International Airport (MCIA).
With daily flights to both Kalibo (KLO) and Caticlan (MPH), MCIA offers the most convenient gateway for those looking to jump straight into the action. Whether you are a first-time visitor or a returning devotee, the festival’s unique “open-to-all” street dancing invites you to be more than just a spectator—you are part of the performance. “Ati-Atihan is more than just a celebration; it is the soul of Aklan. We invite the world to paint their faces, join the rhythm, and witness the glory of our traditions,” says the Aklan Tourism Board.
