Pres. Marcos Jr. celebrates PAL’s 85th anniversary with the unveiling of an advanced Airbus A350-1000

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. joined Philippine Airlines (PAL) at Villamor Air Base on Saturday to celebrate the flag carrier’s 85-year legacy and lead the unveiling of its new Airbus A350-1000. The event, titled “Legacy in Flight,” marks a significant milestone in the modernization of the Philippine aviation sector.

President Marcos recognized PAL’s storied history as Asia’s first commercial airline, noting its pioneering achievements such as being the first Asian carrier to cross the Pacific (1946) and fly to Europe (1947).

“PAL has remained a steady presence in our national story,” the President stated. “These milestones point us firmly towards the future. They strengthen our aviation sector, expand connectivity, and open doors to trade, tourism, and investment.”

The highlight of the ceremony was the introduction of the Airbus A350-1000, a state-of-the-art widebody aircraft. This addition makes PAL the first airline in Southeast Asia and only the tenth worldwide to operate this specific model.

Key Features of the New Fleet Addition:

  • Enhanced Efficiency: New-generation design and materials result in a 25% reduction in fuel burn.

  • Sustainability: Lower operating costs and significantly reduced carbon emissions.

  • Expanded Reach: Optimized for ultra-long-haul routes, specifically targeting increased connectivity to North America.

The President emphasized that the modernization of the flag carrier is a “powerful engine” for national development. By maintaining its status as a full-service, four-star airline, PAL continues to showcase Filipino warmth and hospitality to the global stage.

President Marcos also lauded PAL’s creative approach to passenger engagement, citing the airline’s new safety video. The video uses a “telenovela” format to weave safety instructions with the Philippines’ natural landscapes, which the President described as “distinctly Filipino.” “This step complements our efforts to modernize the aviation sector and embrace more sustainable practices for the future,” President Marcos concluded.
