Tourism Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco emphasized that a “whole-of-nation” approach remains the cornerstone of the Philippines’ strategy to navigate global tourism challenges. Speaking at the post-year-end gathering of the Philippine IATA Agents Travel Association (PIATA) on Friday (Jan. 16), the Secretary reaffirmed the Department of Tourism’s (DOT) commitment to deep-rooted collaboration with private sector stakeholders.
Addressing a room of travel industry leaders, Secretary Frasco highlighted that the industry’s success depends on the seamless integration of government policy and private sector agility, particularly when facing “beyond-control” external factors.
“Tourism is not a solitary endeavor. It is a whole-of-nation approach that requires a whole-of-government and whole-of-private sector intervention,” Secretary Frasco stated. “That is exactly the perspective that we have tried to apply in the Department of Tourism. I assure you that we are just as fueled as we were from day one to champion your causes.”
PIATA, a long-standing active partner of the DOT, continues to play a vital role in the Philippine travel ecosystem. Their contributions span critical services, including:
-
Logistics & Distribution: Facilitating ticket issuance and travel tours.
-
Hospitality: Managing complex accommodation requirements.
-
Market Promotion: Driving demand through competitive travel deals for both domestic and international destinations.
The DOT has prioritized a responsive relationship with PIATA member-companies, actively addressing fiscal and operational concerns to ensure the industry remains resilient in a fluctuating global market. By focusing on these grassroots business hurdles, the DOT aims to maintain the Philippines’ position as a premier, sustainable destination.
As the industry moves further into 2026, the DOT and PIATA pledge to continue their joint efforts to streamline tourism services and enhance the overall travel experience for visitors coming to and traveling within the Philippines.
