BOC fast-tracks FedEx cargo operations, recognition highlights gains in trade efficiency

The Bureau of Customs (BOC) has received formal recognition from FedEx Express Philippines for implementing streamlined logistics protocols that have significantly accelerated cargo movement and delivery speeds at Clark International Airport.

In a letter addressed to BOC Commissioner Ariel F. Nepomuceno, FedEx Philippines Managing Director Maribeth Espinosa expressed appreciation for the Bureau’s swift approval of additional chartered cargo flights and the granting of exceptions for Transfer Permits. These measures allow imported containers to move directly to FedEx’s bonded warehouse for immediate sorting, bypassing traditional bottlenecks while remaining fully compliant with customs regulations.

The collaboration has yielded immediate tangible results for the logistics sector and the consuming public:

Increased Capacity: FedEx now operates up to seven chartered flights per week, supplementing its regular flight schedule from China.

Reduced Backlogs: The first successful charter flight on January 13 proved instrumental in clearing early-morning arrival surges at Clark.

Direct Transfer: The new Permit to Transfer exception allows for immediate off-site sorting, slashing overall processing time.

“For many Filipinos, faster cargo processing means quicker delivery of online purchases, business shipments, and essential goods,” said Commissioner Nepomuceno. “Our goal in Customs is to protect the border while making sure legitimate goods reach people without unnecessary delay.”

FedEx highlighted the “hands-on coordination” of Port of Clark District Collector Jarius Reyes and Deputy Commissioner Atty. Agaton Teodoro Uvero noted that their leadership was vital to the smooth transition of these new operational standards.

This initiative aligns with the economic agenda of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., focusing on ease of doing business and strengthening national supply chains. By reducing bureaucratic delays, the BOC continues to modernize the Philippines’ logistics landscape, ensuring that Filipino households and businesses receive essential goods with greater reliability.

The Bureau of Customs remains committed to its trade facilitation reforms, viewing this partnership with FedEx as a blueprint for future private-sector collaborations aimed at boosting the country’s global competitiveness.
