New NAIA Terminal 1 arrivals extension officially opens, enhancing passenger safety and comfort

Following a successful dry-run period, the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) is proud to announce the official opening of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 1 Arrivals Extension. This milestone marks a significant step in the ongoing commitment to modernize the airport’s infrastructure and elevate the overall passenger experience.

The newly expanded facility is designed to decongest the terminal’s arrival area, offering a more seamless transition for travelers from the aircraft to their onward transport. By integrating smarter design and expanded amenities, the extension addresses long-standing bottlenecks and improves the welcoming atmosphere for both local and international visitors.

Key Enhancements and Features:
  • Improved Accessibility: In a major upgrade for safety and inclusivity, the ramp slope has been reduced from 8% to 4%. This gentler incline, paired with new anti-slip rubber mat flooring, ensures that the pathway is safer for senior citizens, persons with disabilities (PWDs), and passengers with heavy luggage.

  • Streamlined Transportation: A new centralized taxi and ride-hailing hub has been established. This dedicated zone is designed to facilitate faster pick-ups and significantly reduce traffic congestion at the terminal curbside.

  • Enhanced Greeter Experience: Recognizing the importance of the “Filipino Welcome,” a dedicated area for meeters and greeters has been created, providing a more organized and comfortable space for families and friends to wait for arriving loved ones.

  • Expanded Dining & Retail: The extension introduces a variety of new dining options, with additional outlets scheduled to open in the coming weeks, providing passengers and visitors with more choices for refreshment.

  • Modernized Environment: The facility features a brighter, more open architectural design, utilizing natural light and improved ventilation to create a sense of space and ease of movement.

“The opening of the T1 Arrivals Extension is more than just a physical expansion; it is a testament to our dedication to passenger-centric service,” says the MIAA Management. “By listening to feedback and implementing these safety and flow improvements, we are ensuring that the first impression of the Philippines is one of efficiency and warmth.”

The NAIA Terminal 1 Arrivals Extension is part of a broader series of initiatives aimed at optimizing airport operations and upgrading the country’s primary gateway to international standards.
