Completion of new Benoni, Camiguin port terminal, craft landing station seen in June this year

The construction of a new passenger terminal and craft landing station at Benoni Port in Camiguin is expected to be completed in June this year, improving access for tourists to one of the country’s emerging tourist destinations.

Transportation Secretary Giovanni “Banoy” Lopez and Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) General Manager Jay Santiago jointly announced efforts to accelerate the construction of the new passenger terminal building (PTB) and light craft landing at the Benoni Port in Camiguin to benefit passengers and tourists.

The port operations building with passenger terminal has total cost of PHP159.25 million. It will have a maximum capacity of up to 400 passengers. Meanwhile, the light craft landing station will cost PHP86.9 million.

Secretary Lopez said President Marcos Jr. has instructed the agency to fast track the construction of transport hubs in the country to encourage more tourists to the regions.

“There are several tourist attractions and white sand beaches in Camiguin that should be visited by locals and foreign tourists, that’s why are acceleration the construction of the port,” said Lopez, who inspected the port construction Thursday together with Camiguin Rep. Jurdin Jesus “JJ” Romualdo.

PPA GM Santiago said the new terminal at Benoni port is big enough to accommodate light craft.

“The PPA is constructing a more modern port to ensure comfortable and accessible travel for passengers,” he said.
