President Marcos Jr. increases the local government support fund to ₱58 billion

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. expanded the Local Government Support Fund (LGSF) today, allocating nearly ₱58 billion for 2026 to accelerate community development, food security, and disaster resilience.

During the launch of the “Sa Bagong Pilipinas, Bawat Bayan Makikinabang” initiative at Malacañan Palace, the President emphasized a shift toward more agile governance by ordering the direct release of funds to Local Government Units (LGUs). This move is designed to bypass bureaucratic bottlenecks and ensure project implementation begins without delay.

The expanded fund targets five critical areas designed to improve the daily lives of Filipinos:

  • Food Security: Over five million families are projected to receive 60 kilos of rice assistance each, a direct measure to combat food insecurity and stabilize household resources.

  • Healthcare Access: Funding is earmarked for the construction of new hospitals and rural health stations, alongside the procurement of advanced medical equipment to decentralize quality care.

  • Disaster Resilience: The President highlighted the construction of permanent multi-purpose halls and sports facilities. “Magsisilbi ito na lugar para sa pagkatuto… at ligtas na masisilungan tuwing may sakuna,” (These will serve as places for learning… and safe shelters during disasters), he stated.

  • Infrastructure & Trade: To lower the cost of goods, the LGSF will prioritize farm-to-market roads and local road networks, directly linking farmers to consumers and increasing rural income.

  • Utilities: Significant portions of the fund will be dedicated to rural electrification and the modernization of water supply systems to ensure clean water and safer, well-lit communities.

President Marcos Jr. reaffirmed his commitment to fiscal integrity, promising that “every centavo” will be spent on high-impact programs. He called on the public to act as partners in monitoring these projects to maintain the integrity of public funds. “Maisasakatuparan lamang ang ating mga hangarin kung patuloy ang ating pagkakaisa at ang ating koordinasyon,” (Our goals can only be realized if our unity and coordination continue), the President remarked.

Following the morning launch, the President is scheduled to witness the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between the Department of Education (DepEd) and various city governments. This partnership marks the beginning of a nationwide classroom-building program, further bridging the gap between national strategy and local execution.

Through these initiatives, the administration continues to build a Bagong Pilipinas that is better prepared for challenges and more open to opportunities for future generations.
