A significant milestone in regional connectivity is set for March 2026, as San Ricardo Shipping Lines officially launches its newest direct route between the Port of Naval in Biliran and the Port of Matnog in Sorsogon.
This strategic maritime link is the culmination of a collaborative effort between the Local Government Units (LGUs) of Naval and Matnog, alongside San Ricardo Shipping Lines, aimed at revitalizing trade and travel between Eastern Visayas and Southern Luzon.
By bypassing traditional, more circuitous routes, the new service significantly reduces the transit time for both passengers and cargo.
-
Distance: The route covers approximately 70–80 nautical miles.
-
Efficiency: The direct connection eliminates unnecessary layovers, providing a “straight-line” solution for logistics companies and travelers.
-
Economic Impact: The route is expected to lower the cost of transporting agricultural products and consumer goods between the Bicol Region and the Visayas.
Servicing this route is the M/V Owen Gian 1, the newest roll-on/roll-off (RoRo) vessel in the San Ricardo Shipping Lines fleet. Designed for modern efficiency and passenger comfort, the vessel is equipped to handle heavy freight, private vehicles, and a high volume of commuters.
“This new route is a testament to what happens when local governments and the private sector align their visions,” said a spokesperson for the project. “We aren’t just moving a ship; we’re moving the economy forward by making the flow of goods faster and more affordable.”
