MARINA, Japan’s JSMEA expand cooperation on shipping market and technology

The Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) has strengthened the Philippines’ maritime industry ties with Japan following the renewal of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Japan Ship Machinery and Equipment Association (JSMEA).

The agreement was reaffirmed by JSMEA Chairman Kinoshita Kazuhiko and Engr. Ramon C. Hernandez, Chief of Staff to the Administrator and Director II, who signed the renewal on behalf of MARINA Administrator Sonia B. Malaluan.

The renewed MOU aims to expand cooperation between the Philippines and Japan through the exchange of information on shipping markets and the latest technological developments in the maritime industry.

It also seeks to facilitate collaboration in maritime education, technical and consulting services, vessel design, engineering and construction, as well as trading activities related to marine transport applications.

In line with the strengthened partnership, JSMEA coordinated with MARINA for the conduct of the “JSMEA Business Matching Forum in Manila”, which aims to provide a platform for Japanese suppliers and Philippine domestic shipping stakeholders to exchange updates on vessel technology and maritime trade.

The forum gathered representatives from government agencies, the shipping industry, shipyards, training centers, and other maritime organizations to discuss opportunities for cooperation and innovation in the maritime sector.
