ILOILO CITY, Philippines — Smoother processing of passenger manifests, faster boarding, shorter queues at ports are now possible with the “tap and go” digital system implemented by ferry operators on the Iloilo–Guimaras route.
Under the system, travelers no longer need to manually write their details. Instead, a single tap or scan of electronic cards or QR codes automatically records their information into the passenger manifest.
The digital system is currently being implemented at Parola Wharf in Iloilo City, as well as the Jordan and Buenavista ports in Guimaras.
MARINA Administrator Sonia B. Malaluan commended boat operators in said routes during her visit to the ports on 10 March 2026 for introducing an innovative solution. She noted that the initiative demonstrates how technology can improve passenger services and enhance operational efficiency at ferry terminals.
“This initiative by ferry operators here in Iloilo and Guimaras is a good example of using technology to better serve passengers,” Malaluan said.
Operators using the electronic card system include Guimaras Island Transport Multipurpose Cooperative (GITMPC)and BAMOSA Marine Transport Corporation, while Buenavista and Jordan Ferry, Inc. (BJFI) use a QR code-based system to generate the electronic manifest. All systems ensure that tickets issued do not exceed the capacity of the boats.
MARINA aims the initiative will set a standard for implementing digital passenger manifests on ferry routes nationwide.
