Finance Secretary Frederick D. Go congratulated the Insurance Commission (IC) on its strong performance in 2025 with total insurance premiums topping PHP 500 billion for the first time in history, signaling that more Filipino families and businesses are taking steps to protect themselves against life’s uncertainties.
“Beyond the numbers, this milestone tells us something even more important. It reflects broader public participation and a growing awareness among Filipinos that insurance is an essential tool for financial protection. This also reaffirms the industry’s role as a cornerstone of economic resilience,” he said in his keynote speech at the IC’s 77th Anniversary celebration on March 16, 2026.
The IC is an attached agency of the Department of Finance (DOF) mandated to regulate and supervise the insurance, pre-need, and health maintenance organization (HMO) industries.
As more Filipinos embrace the insurance mindset, Secretary Go expressed his commitment to strengthening the insurance industry and ensuring that protection reaches even more families and communities, especially the underserved.
In 2025, the insurance industry’s total assets grew to PHP 2.66 trillion. The majority of these assets support government securities and domestic investments that help finance infrastructure and national development priorities.
The Health Maintenance Organization (HMO) industry paid out PHP 12.10 billion in healthcare benefits and claims in 2025, demonstrating the industry’s continued commitment to improving access to quality healthcare for all Filipinos.
Meanwhile, the pre-need industry’s total premium income rose to PHP 23.94 billion in the fourth quarter of 2025, with 895,679 sold by year-end, helping families prepare for future educational and memorial needs with greater confidence.
Beyond traditional insurance programs, Secretary Go emphasized that initiatives such as Takaful, microinsurance, and accident coverages must be further developed and refined to ensure that financial protection reaches more Filipinos.
And to encourage more Filipinos to embrace insurance, Secretary Go called for stronger consumer protection and digital transformation for faster, simpler, and more secure insurance systems.
Finally, Secretary Go underscored the importance of strong collaboration with ASEAN and global partners to build policies that are responsive and inclusive.
The insurance industry continues to play a vital role in protecting the financial security of individuals while supporting the stability and growth of the nation’s economy, ensuring that more Filipinos can face the future with confidence.
