Dupinga Mini Hydro Corp. starts commercial operations of the 5-MW hydro power plant

Dupinga Mini Hydro Corporation (DMHC), a subsidiary of Alternergy Holdings Corp. has started commercial operations of the 5 MW Dupinga Run-of-River (ROR) Hydro Power Plant in Gabaldon, Nueva Ecija.

The Dupinga project marks Alternergy’s second major commissioning of 2026, following the successful launch of the 28 MWp Balsik Solar Power Plant in Bataan last month.

The activation of the Dupinga plant is a strategic turning point for the company, achieving its goal of a diversified “Triple Play” portfolio comprising wind, solar, and run-of-river hydro resources.

“With hydro now online, our Triple Play strategy of diversifying revenues across complementary technologies is expected to boost Alternergy’s asset base and share value for our investors,” said Gerry P. Magbanua, President of Alternergy.

The journey to completion involved navigating complex permitting processes, engaging with indigenous communities, and navigating global geopolitical and pandemic-related hurdles. Eduardo Martinez Miranda, President of Alternergy Mini Hydro Holdings Corporation, highlighted the engineering feats required to bring the project to life while protecting the local environment.

Key technical features include:

A 3-kilometer concrete headrace tracing the mountain’s natural contours.

A 1-kilometer steel siphon system designed for maximum efficiency and minimal ecological footprint.

The Dupinga Project serves as a critical “last mile” infrastructure for the Nueva Ecija Electric Cooperative II – Area 2 (NEECO II- Area 2). Over 25 years, the plant will provide:

23,000 MWh of annual power supply.

Clean energy for approximately 13,000 households.

A reduction of 16,500 metric tonnes of carbon emissions per year.

The project not only supports Renewable Portfolio Standards (RPS) compliance but also improves the overall reliability and quality of electricity for Gabaldon and its neighboring municipalities.

Alternergy is rapidly scaling its operations to meet its “1 Green Gigawatt by 2030” goal. With Dupinga and Balsik now operational, the company is shifting its focus to two massive wind projects slated for completion later this year:

Tanay Wind Power Project: 128 MW

Alabat Wind Power Project: 64 MW

Together, these facilities will add 225 MW of new generating capacity to the Alternergy Group. Furthermore, the company is now mobilizing resources for its next “shovel-ready” hydro project in Kiangan, Ifugao, applying the innovations and lessons learned from the Dupinga success.
