EV sales seen to double market share this year

The share of electric vehicles (EVs) in total motor vehicle sales in the domestic market could potentially double to 20 percent this year, from 10 percent in 2025, driven by brisk sales as fuel prices continue to skyrocket.

Edmund Araga, ex-officio president of the Electric Vehicle Association of the Philippines (EVAP), told LogisticsNews.PH that EV distributors have been reporting brisk sales since the start of the U.S.-Israel war vs. Iran.

“Based on report we got from the Land Transportation Office registration, there were like 46,000 EVs registered in 2025 from only 24,000 in 2024. So it is possible we could double our share in terms of total industry sales,” Araga said.

Earlier, EVAP also forecast a 15 percent increase in sales this year.

“Our members are now getting a lot of inquiries and placements. BYD has one-to-months of waiting period as stocks run out while Vinfast has also two months waiting period,” Araga added.

EVAP Chairman Ferdinand Raquelsantos also corroborated Araga’s forecast, saying, “There are a lot of inquiries and sales have been picking up more than we expected.”
