National energy emergency a proactive step, says American firms in PH

The American Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines (AmCham) said the declaration of a State of National Energy Emergency by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. is a proactive step toward addressing the country’s evolving energy challenges. For the business community, reliable and affordable energy is essential to operational stability, investment planning, and overall competitiveness.

Further, AmCham expressed its support for the government’s whole-of-government approach as outlined in the Executive Order, particularly the directive for agencies to ensure bureaucratic efficiency, the unhampered movement of essential goods, people, and services, and the application of necessary and proportionate compliance mechanisms. We underscore the importance of implementing these measures in a transparent, predictable, and well-coordinated manner to minimize disruption while strengthening long-term energy security.

American businessmen in the country also noted that this development also presents a timely opportunity to advance priority reforms under Arangkada Philippines, including amendments to the Electric Power Industry Reform Act (EPIRA), strengthening the energy regulatory framework, accelerating renewable energy development, improving grid infrastructure, and encouraging greater private sector participation.

Moving these measures forward collaboratively can reinforce investor confidence and demonstrate the Philippines’ commitment to a stable, forward-looking energy sector.

AmCham further extend its commitment to continue working with the government and stakeholders to support practical solutions that will sustain economic growth and enhance the country’s attractiveness to both domestic and foreign investors.
