The Maritime Industry Authority–National Capital Region (MARINA-NCR) conducted a series of vessel inspections on Wednesday at Pier 4 of Manila North Harbor and Baseco Port as part of its ongoing efforts to safeguard maritime travel.
The inspections were carried out under the Nationwide Validation Inspection (NVI) program, a key initiative designed to ensure that passenger vessels meet stringent safety and operational standards, particularly during peak travel periods when port traffic significantly increases.
During the activity, MARINA-NCR personnel thoroughly examined vessels to verify their seaworthiness and confirm compliance with maritime safety regulations. Inspectors also assessed whether ships are equipped with the required number of life-saving appliances, including life vests, lifeboats, and emergency signaling devices, as well as other essential safety equipment.
The agency emphasized that strict adherence to safety standards is critical in protecting the lives of passengers and crew, especially amid the anticipated surge in travelers. Vessel operators were reminded to maintain full compliance with existing maritime rules and to prioritize safety at all times.
“This initiative underscores our commitment to ensuring that every vessel operating within our jurisdiction is fit for sea travel and fully compliant with safety requirements,” MARINA-NCR said in a statement. “Through proactive inspections, we aim to prevent maritime incidents and provide the riding public with safe and secure travel.”
The Nationwide Validation Inspection will continue to be implemented across key ports nationwide, reinforcing the government’s efforts to uphold maritime safety and operational excellence throughout the country.
