Demonstrating the government’s unwavering commitment to the protection of its citizens abroad, 244 Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) and their families safely arrived at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3 today, Friday, April 3, 2026.
The repatriates arrived via Gulf Air Flight 154, concluding an arduous but successful journey organized under the direct mandate of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. to prioritize the welfare of Filipinos caught in the escalating tensions across the Middle East.
The repatriation was a logistical feat involving a three-day journey that required seamless coordination across international borders. Due to regional disruptions, the group underwent:
-
Land Transit: A cross-border journey from Bahrain to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA).
-
Air Transit: Departure from Dammam, KSA, via Gulf Air, landing in Manila at Terminal 3.
This complex “land-to-air” evacuation strategy was managed through the joint efforts of the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) and the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), working in lockstep with Philippine embassies in both Manama and Riyadh.
“The safety of our kababayans is non-negotiable,” said DMW in a statement.”Following the President’s directive, we have mobilized every available resource to ensure that no Filipino is left behind as the situation in the region evolves.”
Upon arrival, the repatriated workers were met by inter-agency teams providing immediate assistance, including:
-
On-site Medical Assessment: Conducted by the Department of Health (DOH).
-
Financial Assistance: Immediate “pabalon” or financial aid distributed by the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA).
-
Psychosocial Support: Counseling services for those distressed by the crisis.
-
Logistical Aid: Transportation arrangements for those traveling to their respective provinces.
The Marcos Jr. administration continues to monitor the Middle East situation in real-time. The DFA and DMW remain on high alert, with contingency plans in place for further repatriations should the security environment necessitate additional evacuations.
The Philippine government extends its gratitude to the authorities in Bahrain and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for their cooperation in facilitating the safe passage of our citizens during this critical period.
