The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW), in close coordination with the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), announced the arrival of 20 Filipinos from Qatar on April 5, 2026.
The group, composed of 19 Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) and one family member, touched down at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) at about 10:30 p.m.
The successful repatriation is the result of a seamless “One Country Team” approach. Through the joint efforts of the Philippine Embassy in Doha, the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), and the DMW, the government ensured that all legal, documentary, and logistical requirements were met for a safe and orderly return.
“The safety and welfare of our modern-day heroes remain our top priority,” said the DMW in a statement. “Through the instructions of the President, we are ensuring that no OFW is left behind, especially those facing difficult circumstances abroad.”
Recognizing the challenges of transitioning back to Philippine life, the government has prepared a “whole-of-government” assistance package:
-
Pre-Departure Support: Before boarding their flight in Doha, the returnees received initial financial grants to cover immediate needs.
-
On-Arrival Medical Care: Teams from the DMW and Bureau of Quarantine are on standby to provide medical check-ups and psychosocial support for those in need of counseling.
-
Financial Reintegration: Additional financial assistance will be distributed upon arrival to serve as a bridge for their families’ daily expenses.
-
Livelihood & Employment: The returnees will be enrolled in OWWA’s reintegration programs, which include skills training, business loan opportunities, and job placement assistance for those wishing to find local employment.
This latest repatriation effort underscores the Philippine government’s steadfast commitment to protecting the rights and interests of Filipinos worldwide. The DMW and DFA continue to monitor the situation of OFWs in the Middle East to provide timely intervention and support.
The arriving Filipinos will be met by senior officials from the DMW and OWWA to ensure their smooth transit from the airport to their respective home provinces.
