AirAsia Philippines is reinforcing its dedication to upholding global aviation safety standards by rigorously implementing new guidelines issued by the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) regarding the use of portable electronic devices, particularly power banks.
According to CAAP’s advisory, the use of power banks during flights is strictly prohibited due to potential safety risks associated with lithium-ion batteries.
However, AirAsia Philippines’ revised policy allows passengers to carry up to two power banks, provided each does not exceed 100 watt-hours (Wh). These devices must not be stored in the overhead compartments; instead, they should be kept with the passenger’s personal belongings either under the seat or in the seat pocket in front. Additionally, the use of power banks during the flight is not permitted.
“While we understand that power banks have become an essential travel item for our guests, safety is always our top priority at AirAsia. We encourage passengers to charge their devices before boarding and to comply with this policy, which is enforced by our highly trained ground and inflight crew,” said First Officer Steve Dailisan, Communications and Public Affairs Head of AirAsia Philippines.
To ensure compliance, AirAsia Philippines will remind guests of the updated policy before boarding. Passengers found using power banks onboard will receive a warning. Continued non-compliance will result in the confiscation of the device, which will be returned upon landing.
For flights to South Korea, additional regulations may apply. Passengers are encouraged to visit airasia.com or use the AskBo feature on the AirAsia MOVE app for further details.
This proactive move highlights AirAsia Philippines’ commitment to maintaining a safe and secure travel experience for all passengers.
