The Philippine creative economy reached a remarkable value of PhP 1.94 trillion in 2024, reflecting an 8.7% expansion from PhP 1.78 trillion in 2023. This growth contributed 7.3% to the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) at current prices for 2024.
The creative economy encompasses a wide range of industries, including:
- Audio and audiovisual media activities
- Digital interactive goods and services
- Advertising, research and development, and other artistic services
- Symbols, images, and related activities
- Media publishing and printing
- Music, arts, and entertainment
- Visual arts
- Traditional cultural expressions
- Art galleries, museums, conventions, trade shows, and related activities
Among these sectors, “Symbols, images, and related activities” led the way, contributing 33.0% or PhP 640.29 billion to the total creative economy in 2024. Close behind were “Advertising, research and development, and other artistic services,” accounting for 21.4% of the total, and “Digital interactive goods and services,” which represented 20.6%.
The creative industries also experienced a boost in employment, reaching 7.51 million workers in 2024, up from 7.23 million in 2023, marking an annual growth rate of 3.9%. Employment in the creative sector now makes up 15.4% of total national employment.
Notably, “Traditional cultural expression activities” had the highest share of employment within the creative industries, comprising 36.6% of the total creative workforce in 2024. Following this were “Symbols, images, and related activities” with 29.5%, and “Advertising, research and development, and other artistic services,” contributing 17.9%.
This data highlights the continued expansion of the creative economy in the Philippines, with significant contributions to both GDP and employment, showcasing its vital role in the nation’s economic landscape.
