PSA approves key resolutions to strengthen statistical systems

The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) Board held its 38th meeting at the PSA Headquarters in Quezon City, where it focused on several key initiatives aimed at enhancing the country’s statistical systems and services.

This quarter’s discussions centered on strategies for regional economic analysis, the rebasing of the Philippine System of National Accounts, improvements to the Civil Registry System (CRS), advancements in migration data collection, and strengthening partnerships across PSA’s operations.

National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) Secretary Arsenio M. Balisacan presided over the meeting, joined by Vice Chairperson Undersecretary Joselito R. Basilio of the Department of Budget and Management, and the Chairperson of the PSA Secretariat, Undersecretary Claire Dennis S. Mapa.

During the meeting, the PSA Board approved several significant resolutions. One major approval was the institutionalization of the Provincial Product Accounts (PPA) compilation, which aims to provide more detailed economic data at the provincial level. Board members highlighted that this move would enhance coordination with Local Government Units (LGUs), fostering better planning and decision-making.

The Board also reviewed proposed enhancements to the CRS, particularly the Decentralized Copy Annotation Process (DeCAP), which aims to improve the accessibility and efficiency of civil registry services. In line with this, the Board expressed support for establishing a PSA-managed CRS outlet in Davao de Oro, expanding service reach.

To further improve data accuracy and administrative processes, the PSA Board endorsed the inclusion of National ID Numbers in administrative data collection forms from agencies involved in international migration data gathering.

Lastly, the PSA Board acted on a request from the Regional Statistics Committee VII to strengthen statistical coordination frameworks at the regional and LGU levels. The Board also agreed to revisit the methodology used in estimating poverty statistics. The Technical Committee on Poverty Statistics committed to reviewing the methodology, and the PSA issued a memorandum to enhance ongoing collaboration with stakeholders.

These resolutions reflect the Board’s commitment to improving the quality, accuracy, and accessibility of the country’s statistical data.
