Ginebra San Miguel set to eliminate plastic pourers from all its products

World’s leading gin-maker Ginebra San Miguel Inc. (GSMI) is  eliminating all plastic pourers from its portfolio of products, in a bid to reduce its plastic footprint, as part of its larger sustainability commitment.

GSMI said its transition to pourer-free bottles for all products in its portfolio is ongoing with the roll-out of Primera Light Brandy (750 mL) in new packaging.

Earlier, the company said it eliminated the use of plastic pourers from its GSM Blue line of products. Additionally, new products such as GSM Premium Gin and Freedom Island Light Rum, were launched without plastic pourers.

Since 2021, the company has been moving towards greater sustainability, introducing improvements in its products’ packaging.

It first transitioned its Ginebra San Miguel Hari (1L) from plastic caps to aluminum caps. It also strengthened its nationwide “Boteful Philippines” bottle retrieval program, to further reduce impacts to the environment.

In 2024, it marked another important milestone with the reduction of the length and thickness of the plastic Seal-O-Band (SOB) used in its Chinese wine, Vino Kulafu.

Thus far, the company said its efforts have reduced its total plastic footprint by 111.5 metric tons for 2024.

“At GSMI, we are seriously committed to creating a more environmentally responsible future. This significant reduction in our plastic footprint is a crucial step in that direction,” said GSMI OIC General Manager Cynthia Baroy. “But we are not stopping here. We will continue to explore innovative solutions to reduce plastic waste and promote responsible packaging across our product lines,” she added.

GSMI affirmed its steadfast commitment to sustainability and providing consumers with eco-friendly products without compromising product quality.
