AirAsia MOVE reaffirms commitment to fair pricing and consumer protection

AirAsia MOVE (MOVE), a leading ASEAN-focused Online Travel Agency (OTA), has reiterated its strong commitment to supporting the Philippine government’s efforts in ensuring transparent pricing and upholding consumer protection across the travel sector.

In a statement issued by MOVE CEO Nadia Omer, the company clarified its role in fare displays and addressed recent concerns about fare discrepancies affecting certain domestic routes, including those operated by Philippine Airlines.

“As an OTA, MOVE does not manually set or manipulate airfare prices,” said Omer. “Our platform displays inventory and pricing data as provided by our authorized upstream suppliers, including third-party aggregators and Global Distribution Systems (GDS).”

MOVE attributed the fare discrepancies to a temporary data synchronization issue with one of its third-party flight pricing providers. This technical issue also impacted several other booking platforms in the industry, including Agoda, Kiwi.com, and Traveloka.

Omer emphasized that MOVE acted promptly upon discovering the issue. “As a matter of due diligence, we immediately engaged the third-party provider to resolve the problem and have since implemented enhanced safeguards to prevent similar occurrences in the future.”

She also underscored MOVE’s full cooperation with Philippine regulatory authorities and affirmed the company’s ongoing compliance with all regulations governing OTA operations in the country. “MOVE welcomes the opportunity to work proactively with the relevant authorities to ensure clarity, transparency, and due process for the benefit of all passengers who use our platform,” said Omer.

Since entering the Philippine market, MOVE has played an active role in supporting the country’s tourism sector through digital innovation, strategic collaborations, and improved travel connectivity. Omer noted that 85% of the company’s travel booking growth has been driven by popular domestic destinations such as Manila, Cebu, and Boracay.

“As an ASEAN-focused brand, we are proud to facilitate inbound travel to the Philippines from across the region,” Omer added. “Our efforts have contributed to a 28% year-on-year increase in international flight bookings into the country, further aligning with the Philippines’ broader tourism agenda.”
