The Philippines proudly celebrated its National Day at Expo Osaka 2025 on Saturday, an event that highlighted the nation’s rich culture and fostered stronger diplomatic relations with Japan. Koji Haneda, Commissioner-General of the 2025 World Exposition, extended profound appreciation to the Philippine government, including the Department of Tourism and the Tourism Promotions Board-Philippines, for their dynamic participation in the highly anticipated global showcase.
In his remarks, Commissioner Haneda conveyed his aspiration that the universally appealing exposition would serve as a powerful conduit, allowing “the charm of the Philippines to be communicated more widely to Japan and the world.” He specifically acknowledged the presence of Honorable Secretary Frasco during the ceremony, stating, “On behalf of the government of Japan, I’d like to extend my warmest congratulations on the National Day Ceremony of the Republic of the Philippines being held here today in the presence of Honorable Secretary Frasco.”
The Philippine exhibition at Expo Osaka 2025, operating under the compelling theme of “Nature, Culture, and Community: Woven Together for a Better Future,” captivated attendees by showcasing its diverse natural landscapes, deep cultural heritage, and innovative use of digital technology. Commissioner Haneda expressed hope that these varied displays would effectively broadcast the Philippines’ appeal globally.
Looking ahead, the celebration also underscored a significant upcoming milestone: the 70th anniversary of bilateral relations between the Philippines and Japan, set to be commemorated next year. Commissioner-General Haneda reaffirmed Japan’s unwavering commitment to supporting the Philippines in its journey towards becoming an upper-middle-income country, echoing sentiments previously articulated by Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba.
“As Prime Minister Ishiba mentioned when he visited the Philippines in April: We are delighted that Japan and the Philippines have now become partners close to the level of an alliance,” Commissioner Haneda quoted, emphasizing the strategic partnership between the two nations. He also extended a warm invitation to all Filipino visitors to explore the Japanese pavilions at the expo, encouraging them to discover new facets of Japan’s allure.
This iteration marks the second time the City of Osaka has hosted a World Expo, following its initial staging in 1970. Expo Osaka 2025 remains open to the public until October 13, 2025.
