The Bureau of Customs (BOC) celebrated a significant step forward in its modernization efforts by renewing its Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with Maya Philippines, Inc. (Maya). This renewal underscores BOC’s commitment to improving public accessibility and streamlining its collection processes.
Signed by Commissioner Bienvenido Y. Rubio and Maya’s Head of Government Relations and Regulatory Affairs, Mr. Kristoffer Eduard Rada, the MOA outlines the integration of Maya’s advanced payment gateway into BOC’s operations.
This integration facilitates the payment of miscellaneous fees through a variety of innovative channels, including online checkout, bill payment, PayMaya One POS terminals, and Smart Padala centers.
Additionally, the agreement covers the collection of duties and taxes for goods processed under informal entry procedures via the BOC’s ePayment Portal System. Partnering with the Bureau of the Treasury (BTr) and the Development Bank of the Philippines (DBP), the initiative highlights a coordinated effort to modernize payment systems.
Commissioner Rubio expressed optimism about the initiative, highlighting its potential to significantly enhance service delivery and reaffirm BOC’s dedication to modernization and stakeholder satisfaction.
In his remarks, he emphasized the importance of collaboration: “By upholding our responsibilities outlined in the MOA, we are well-positioned to achieve our collective goals and objectives. The Bureau of Customs looks forward to this collaborative partnership with BTr, DBP, and Maya and anticipates even stronger cooperation moving forward.”
This partnership aligns with Customs Memorandum Order No. 06-2024, which governs the implementation of electronic payment systems, reinforcing the agency’s dedication to providing stakeholders with secure and convenient payment options.
Through technology and collaboration, the BOC continues to advance a more efficient, transparent, and service-oriented customs administration, demonstrating its commitment to innovation and strategic partnerships for the public’s benefit.
