The National Electrification Administration (NEA), through its Accounts Management and Guarantee Department (AMGD), today announced a significant milestone in its rural electrification efforts, reporting that at least 24 electric cooperatives (ECs) have availed themselves of P1.54 billion in loans during the first half of 2025. This achievement represents 86 percent of the state-owned corporation’s P1.795 billion allocated budget for its various lending programs this year, as of June 30, 2025.
The NEA’s lending programs are crucial in supporting the operational and developmental needs of its partner electric cooperatives, which are at the forefront of bringing electricity to rural communities across the nation. The substantial loan disbursements underscore the NEA’s commitment to strengthening the financial viability and operational capacity of ECs.
According to the AMGD, the availed loans were primarily utilized for two key purposes: capital expenditures (CapEx) and working capital. Twenty (20) power co-ops collectively borrowed P893.65 million for their respective CapEx projects, aimed at upgrading and expanding their infrastructure. Additionally, five ECs secured loans totaling P650 million to bolster their working capital, ensuring smooth day-to-day operations.
The second quarter of 2025 saw a notable acceleration in loan processing, with P967 million disbursed, significantly higher than the P577 million processed during the first three months of the year. This increased pace highlights the NEA’s efficiency in responding to the financial needs of the electric cooperatives.
“We are immensely proud of the progress made in the first half of 2025, demonstrating our unwavering commitment to empowering our electric cooperatives,” said NEA. “These loans are vital investments that enable our ECs to enhance service reliability, expand coverage, and ultimately improve the quality of life for millions of Filipinos in rural areas. We will continue to work diligently to meet and exceed our annual targets, ensuring sustainable rural electrification.”
