PPA issues urgent advisory as tropical storm Crising strands passengers at piers

The Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) issued an urgent advisory to the public, particularly to sea travelers, regarding the significant number of stranded passengers at various piers due to widespread trip cancellations caused by Tropical Storm Crising (#CrisingPH). The PPA is actively monitoring the situation and working to mitigate the inconvenience faced by the affected individuals.

Tropical Storm Crising has brought adverse weather conditions across several regions, leading to the suspension of sea travel operations for the safety of passengers and crew. This necessary measure, while crucial for safety, has resulted in a growing number of passengers accumulating at port terminals, awaiting the resumption of their scheduled trips.

“We understand the frustration and inconvenience this situation is causing our passengers,” a PPA spokesman said. “The safety of our travelers remains our paramount concern. While we are doing our best to accommodate those stranded at our facilities, we strongly urge everyone planning to travel by sea to prioritize their safety and avoid unnecessary trips to the port during this period of inclement weather.”

The PPA reiterates its crucial reminder for all prospective passengers: “Please contact the concerned shipping lines first before proceeding to any port to verify the status of your trip. This simple step can help you avoid significant inconvenience, prolonged waits, and potential exposure to the elements at the pier.”

Shipping lines are continuously updating their schedules based on weather advisories from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) and directives from maritime authorities. Passengers are advised to stay informed through official channels, including the PPA’s social media accounts and the respective shipping line hotlines.

The PPA is coordinating with shipping operators and local government units to ensure the welfare of stranded passengers, including providing necessary assistance and information. Passengers are encouraged to remain calm, follow instructions from port personnel, and exercise patience as authorities work to normalize operations once weather conditions improve.
