The anxious wait has ended for three families in Kidapawan City as Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) Secretary Hans Leo J. Cacdac personally delivered their long-delayed Balikbayan boxes. These boxes, symbols of the profound sacrifices made by Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) for their loved ones, finally reached their rightful homes.
Among the recipients was a family who had been waiting for nearly three years for two boxes sent from Kuwait, filled with hard-earned goods.
“I am so grateful to the DMW because I finally received the Balikbayan box my child worked so hard for abroad. Thank you very much,” said Nanay Alma A. Rios, mother of an OFW in Kuwait, her voice filled with relief.
Secretary Cacdac emphasized the deeper meaning behind the deliveries. “We are delighted and thankful to God. These boxes are not just material goods—they are the fruits of their loved ones’ labor and sacrifice,” he stated. He added, “For every Balikbayan box delivered safely, a family’s dignity is restored, and a promise is fulfilled.”
The successful turnover was a result of collaborative efforts between the DMW, Bureau of Customs, Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), and other agencies. This coordinated action follows the recent signing of a Joint Administrative Order and Deed of Donation specifically aimed at addressing undelivered and fraudulent Balikbayan shipments. This initiative directly aligns with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s directive to uphold the rights and welfare of OFWs and their families.
Secretary Cacdac was joined by DMW Regional Directors Ma. Carolina Agdamag, Samsudin Lintongan, and Augusto B. San Diego III, along with personnel from OWWA, representatives from Kidapawan City including Ms. Janice Baldivieso and the City OFW Federation, and local government officials, including Ms. Herminia C. Infanta, PESO Manager. All expressed their full support for the DMW’s proactive efforts.
The DMW swiftly intervened to resolve the persistent issue of delayed and undelivered Balikbayan boxes, ensuring these cherished packages reached their intended recipients. This action also signals a firm commitment to preventing future cases of fraud and neglect, safeguarding the trust and hard work of Filipino migrant workers.
