MRT-3 revolutionizes commute with faster cashless payments and free Wi-Fi

In a significant step towards modernizing public services and enhancing commuter experience, the Department of Transportation (DOTr), in collaboration with the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP), Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), Land Bank of the Philippines (LBP), and GCash, today officially launched the new MRT-3 Faster Payment System. This initiative directly responds to President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s directive to make government services lighter, more modern, and accessible to all Filipinos.

The formal launch, held at the One Ayala station, was spearheaded by DICT Secretary Henry Aguda and DOTr Secretary Vince Dizon. Both secretaries personally demonstrated the ease and speed of the new alternative cashless payment methods, marking a new era for public transportation in Metro Manila.

“This new payment system for MRT-3 is a testament to our commitment to innovation and convenience for the Filipino commuting public,” stated DOTr Secretary Vince Dizon. “By integrating modern payment solutions, we are not only speeding up transactions but also making daily commutes more efficient and hassle-free, aligning with the President’s vision for a modern Philippines.”

Under the newly implemented system, commuters can now enjoy significantly faster transactions and fare payments through a variety of alternative methods, including debit cards, credit cards, and e-wallets. This broadens accessibility and caters to the growing preference for digital transactions.

Complementing the cashless payment system, all MRT-3 stations are now equipped with DICT’s “Free Wi-Fi for All” service. This ensures seamless connectivity, further facilitating the use of digital payments and providing commuters with access to essential online services while on the go.

DICT Secretary Henry Aguda emphasized the role of technology in public service. “The provision of free Wi-Fi across MRT-3 stations is crucial. It empowers our commuters, making digital payments truly convenient and ensuring that everyone can stay connected, transforming our public transport hubs into digital-ready spaces.”

This collaborative effort underscores the government’s dedication to leveraging technology for the benefit of the public, promising a more streamlined, modern, and accessible commuting experience for millions of MRT-3 riders.
