The Philippine government continues to champion initiatives aimed at enhancing the nation’s digitalization and preparing for the rapid advancements in Artificial Intelligence (AI). In a significant move, the Department of Economy, Planning, and Development (DEPDev) recently announced the National Innovation Council (NIC)’s approval for the formation of a specialized technical group. This group, comprising leading experts and leaders from industry, academe, and government, is tasked with conducting a comprehensive study on AI capabilities, ecosystems, and future applications within the country.
The establishment of this new think tank, dedicated to innovating AI policy in the Philippines, marks a highly anticipated progression. It aligns seamlessly with the government’s overarching National Artificial Intelligence Strategy Roadmap, signifying a concerted effort to foster a robust and responsible AI environment.
In light of these developments, the European Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines (ECCP) and its ICT Committee are proud to host the second AI Forum. This crucial event will provide timely updates on AI policy developments not only in the Philippines but also across the broader region. Furthermore, the forum will delve into the critical ethical considerations that arise as AI becomes increasingly integrated into the core of our social and economic realities, impacting sectors such as education, business, and inclusive development.
The AI Forum is designed as a vital platform for dialogue, bringing together key stakeholders from government, industry leaders, non-governmental organizations, and the academe. The collective aim is to advance the responsible governance of emergent technologies, ensuring that AI development in the Philippines is both innovative and ethically sound.
