Cebu Pacific hosts Women in Aviation International – Philippines chapter

Cebu Pacific, the Philippines’ leading carrier, hosted the official launch of the Women in Aviation International – Philippines (WAI-PH) chapter. This new organization is the country’s first dedicated to supporting and empowering women professionals across all sectors of the aviation industry.

WAI-PH is the local chapter of Women in Aviation International (WAI), a nonprofit with over 20,000 members worldwide. WAI provides essential mentorship, scholarships, and networking opportunities, all with the core mission to educate and empower women throughout the industry.

“Cebu Pacific is proud to support this initiative that empowers women in aviation,” said Shevantha Weerasekera, CEB Vice President for Engineering and Fleet Management. “It aligns perfectly with our goal of fostering an inclusive and equitable workplace where everyone can take flight.”

The launch, sponsored by CEB’s Engineering and Fleet Management (EFM) and the People Department, comes at a crucial time as the Philippine aviation sector faces modernization, digital transformation, and workforce challenges.

Inspiring the Next Generation

As part of the event, WAI-PH also celebrated Girls in Aviation Day (GIAD). The initiative inspired young Filipinas by giving them an early glimpse into the world of aviation through engaging, hands-on activities. Participants enjoyed career talks led by accomplished female pilots, engineers, mechanics, and cabin crew, as well as aircraft tours and resource kits from WAI-USA.

The event encouraged the young attendees to consider the diverse and exciting career paths available in the aerospace industry, directly addressing the need for a more robust and diverse talent pipeline.

A Focus on Growth and Inclusion

Looking ahead, WAI-PH aims to significantly expand its reach beyond its founding members—Cebu Pacific, Aplus, and Airlink Aviation College. The chapter plans to actively engage other airlines, aviation schools, and maintenance organizations (MROs) nationwide.

Through key programs like mentorship, leadership development, and outreach initiatives, WAI-PH—with the support of Cebu Pacific—is committed to inspiring more Filipinas to pursue aviation careers and contribute to a more diverse and inclusive industry for the future.
