IKEA expands PH operation, builds planning and delivery center to serve Northern Manila

IKEA, the popular Swedish home furnishing chain, is investing up to PHP35 million in a new “Plan & Order Shop” at Trinoma Mall, expanding its footprint into the northern part of Metro Manila. The company views the shop’s success as a potential benchmark for establishing a larger store in the area.

Ricardo Pinheiro, IKEA Philippines’ Country Retail Manager, shared the news during a press conference ahead of the shop’s opening on October 23, 2025. He said the new 500-square-meter store will provide greater convenience for customers in the north, allowing them to plan, order, and collect items more easily.

Apart from the space in Trinoma Mall, Pinheiro said that part of the investments include the training of 14 co-workers for the new store.

The shop includes a dedicated section focused on cooking and eating—currently the top-performing product category in IKEA Philippines. Customers can also avail of site measurement and kitchen fitting services for a minimum fee of PHP999, through a local partner. IKEA products ordered through the shop can be collected or delivered and installed anywhere in the country.

“We are committed to making this branch a success. We will see how customers in the north embrace this concept—it will guide our future plans. The future is very much in the hands of our Quezon City customers,” Pinheiro said.

Local sourcing

Pinheiro also revealed that IKEA is exploring local textile sourcing to eventually include in its Philippine offerings, which currently total over 8,500 products. While he didn’t specify the intended use of the textiles, IKEA’s catalog includes numerous items—such as furniture and home décor—that incorporate fabric.

He said that IKEA is already in talks with a couple of local partners connected with its sustainability principles and social entrepreneurships in the Philippines, but which is still in its very early stage.

Currently, IKEA’s Pasay branch—the largest IKEA store in the world— sources all its natural plants locally. Pinheiro said that sales of local plants have been a big success.

“There is no home I’ve visited in the Philippines that doesn’t have plants or flowers,” he said, adding that the company aims to double its sales and varieties of ornamental plants within a year, with orchids expected to be part of the expanded range.

IKEA is already in talks with local partners who align with the company’s sustainability principles to supply both indoor and outdoor plants.

The opening of the Plan & Order Shop also comes at an ideal time, as Filipinos enter the festive season—traditionally marked by increased home cooking, entertaining, and home improvements.
