BOC-NAIA seizes P42.5 million worth of illegal drugs at NAIA Terminal 3

The Bureau of Customs-Ninoy Aquino International Airport (BOC-NAIA), in reinforced collaboration with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) and airport security personnel, successfully intercepted an arriving passenger carrying a significant volume of methamphetamine hydrochloride, commonly known as “shabu,” at NAIA Terminal 3 on October 28, 2025.

The operation resulted in the seizure of approximately 6,250 grams (6.25 kilograms) of the illegal substance, carrying an estimated street value of ₱42.5 million.

The suspected contraband was first detected during a routine screening process at the Arrival Area when BOC x-ray operatives flagged suspicious images in the passenger’s hand-carried baggage. Upon immediate physical inspection and subsequent field testing using a Raman Spectrometer, the contents tested positive for methamphetamine hydrochloride. The passenger originated from Addis Ababa.

Customs Commissioner Ariel Nepomuceno commended the vigilance and prompt action of the BOC-NAIA team, highlighting the Bureau’s commitment to the national anti-smuggling and anti-drug campaigns.

“This operation underscores the Bureau’s firm commitment to securing our borders and protecting the nation from illegal drugs. Following the President’s directive, we will further strengthen our enforcement efforts in coordination with our partner agencies,” Commissioner Nepomuceno said.

The apprehended passenger and the seized illegal substance have been turned over to the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) for custodial investigation and the filing of appropriate charges in violation of the Republic Act No. 9165 (Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002) and Republic Act No. 10863 (Customs Modernization and Tariff Act).

The BOC-NAIA continues to intensify its border protection efforts in line with the administration’s call for transparency, integrity, and decisive action against illicit trade and drug trafficking.
