OTS, CAAP conduct strategic security survey at Siquijor Airport ahead of commercial launch

As part of the final preparations for the commencement of commercial flight operations, the Office for Transportation Security (OTS) and the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) successfully completed a comprehensive security survey at Siquijor Airport from November 17 to 21, 2025.

The joint initiative targeted both the Siquijor Airport Management and Sunlight Express Airways, the carrier set to service the province. By evaluating the airport during its critical construction and modernization phase, the OTS ensures that the facility’s architectural layout and infrastructure are built with “security by design” at their core.

The survey was meticulously designed to align the airport’s development with the National Civil Aviation Security Programme (NCASP) 2024. Leading the assessment were:

  • Ms. Anallie Cruzada, Head of the Airport and Aircraft Section (OTS)

  • Ms. Mia Faye Pajanel, Transportation Regulation Officer II (OTS)

  • Engineers from the CAAP-Aerodrome Development and Management Service

Rather than acting solely as a checklist, the survey served as a proactive consultation. The team focused on identifying potential vulnerabilities within the new infrastructure and collaborating with Sunlight Express Airways to develop robust mitigation strategies. This ensures that Siquijor Airport meets both national mandates and international aviation security standards before the first passenger checks in.

“In line with President Ferdinand Bongbong Marcos Jr.’s directive to uphold the highest standards of transportation security, the OTS is committed to integrating security into the very blueprint of our nation’s transport hubs,” the OTS stated. “Our goal is to provide travelers with a journey that is not only comfortable but fundamentally safe and secure.”

As Siquijor prepares to welcome increased tourism and trade through enhanced aerial connectivity, this security survey marks a pivotal step in guaranteeing the long-term reliability of the province’s primary gateway.
