TMP churns out 21,000 Tamaraw units for MSMEs

Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) has produced a total of 21,000 Tamaraw units, the iconic locally produced multi-purpose vehicle, since production began at its Santa Rosa, Laguna plant on November 28, 2024.

TMP President Masando Hashimoto made the announcement in his Statement of Support for the Supply Chain and Logistics Center of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), where he cited the efforts of DTI Secretary Cristina Roque in championing local manufacturing.

As of end-January 2026, Hashimoto said TMP has proudly produced over 21,000 units, made possible by the dedication of 4,500 Filipino workers and the support of 44 locally sourced parts suppliers—many of whom are micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs).

Designed with Filipino businesses in mind, the Tamaraw is built for real working conditions and the real dreams of Filipino MSMEs.

To meet the diverse needs of the economy, TMP offers 12 conversion options, including standard and niche body styles. Its versatility is reflected in specialized Tamaraw units transformed into ambulances, police patrol vehicles, food trucks, emergency vehicles, and even race vehicles.

“It reflects our belief in ‘Abante, Posible’ —that progress is within reach when businesses are equipped with the right tools. It is proudly Gawang Pinoy, Tatak Pinoy, developed with local needs at the center so it truly serves the way Filipino entrepreneurs work and grow.

Hashimoto said that through its partnership with the DTI–Supply Chain and Logistics Center, they aim to strengthen local businesses by improving their logistics capabilities— making them more efficient, accessible, and resilient. “Together, we strive to enable enterprises across the country with mobility solutions that are affordable, fit-for-purpose, and aligned with global standards. Our shared goal is simple: to empower Filipino businesses to move forward, expand opportunities, and succeed with trusted mobility and stronger logistics support at every step,” he said.
