SM Supermalls, the mall operations arm of SM Prime Holdings, Inc., announced a landmark year for 2025, recording a staggering 1.4 billion total visits across its nationwide network.
Averaging 115 million visits per month, the retail giant demonstrated remarkable resilience and growth despite global economic shifts and local weather challenges.
The year culminated in a historic December peak, where monthly foot traffic surged to 153 million. During the holiday season, daily visits averaged 5.5 million on weekends and 4.6 million on weekdays, solidifying SM’s position as the primary destination for Filipino social and commercial life.
As the company celebrated its 40th anniversary in 2025, leadership emphasized that these figures represent more than just foot traffic—they represent a transformation in the mall experience.
“As we marked our 40th anniversary last year, we reflected not only on what we have achieved, but on what the next four decades must become,” said SM Supermalls President Steven T. Tan. “With our customer as our North Star, we are evolving all for them, transforming their most-loved SM Supermalls not just to respond to needs, but to proactively anticipate them.”
SM’s success in 2025 was driven by a data-led strategy that combined first-to-market attractions with a diverse tenant mix. Key highlights from the past year include:
-
Flagship Openings: The launch of MOA Sky and ScreenX, both Philippine-first concepts.
-
Lifestyle & Sports: The introduction of SM Active Hub, the nation’s largest inclusive sports playground.
-
Community & Sustainability: The expansion of Book Nook reading spaces and purpose-led green initiatives.
-
Global Brand Entries: SM welcomed international favorites including Läderach, JD, Mak’s Noodle, Oysho, Vivaia, and Christy Ng.
Looking ahead, SM Supermalls has committed to an ambitious growth trajectory. The company has launched a strategic roadmap to deliver one flagship mall every year until 2030, alongside large-scale redevelopments across its current portfolio of 89 malls.
Management expects foot traffic to remain robust in 2026, bolstered by high-profile launches that occurred in late December 2025. These include Southeast Asia’s first adidas Football Park and the debut of Pop Mart’s first permanent Philippine store at SM Megamall.
“This year, we are bringing in new concepts that reflect how customers live, so every SM mall continues to feel personal, meaningful, and worth returning to,” Tan concluded.
