Authorities seize smuggled cigarettes at Masbate Port

A joint operation conducted by local authorities, in coordination with the Port Management Office (PMO) of Masbate, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), and the Philippine National Police (PNP), led to the successful interception of smuggled cigarettes at the Kho Container Port and Terminal Services, Inc. in Mobo Town on March 31, 2026.

According to initial reports, the contraband was transported via a 10-wheeler truck that originated from Bogo, Cebu. The vehicle passed through the municipality of Cawayan, Masbate, en route to the private port facility, where it was scheduled for shipment to Pio Duran, Albay.

The operation was carried out with the assistance of the PCG’s K9 unit trained in narcotics and explosives detection. Acting on intelligence information, authorities intercepted the truck prior to loading. A subsequent inspection revealed a total of 630 boxes of smuggled cigarettes, each containing 500 packs.

Authorities have launched a full-scale investigation to identify and apprehend the individuals responsible for the illegal shipment. The seized items are currently under the custody of the Philippine National Police, and appropriate charges are being prepared against those involved.

Officials reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening port security and curbing illicit trade activities in the region.
