The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has intensified its “Semana Santa” infrastructure blitz, launching a 24/7 repair and rehabilitation window across Epifanio de los Santos Avenue (EDSA) to take advantage of the holiday lull.
The expedited works, which commenced at 10:00 PM on April 1, 2026, are scheduled for completion by April 6, 2026. This aggressive timeline is a critical component of the EDSA Rehabilitation Phase I, a flagship project aimed at revitalizing the capital’s primary artery.
DPWH Secretary Vince Dizon conducted a comprehensive site inspection today to monitor progress at three high-priority work areas. He was joined by National Capital Region (NCR) Regional Director Joel F. Limpengco and Assistant Regional Director Sherwin I. Galleros.
The inspection focused on three strategic locations:
-
Makati City: Pedestrian-centric sidewalk improvements stretching from Buendia Avenue to Estrella.
-
Magallanes: Major structural renovations on the Magallanes Flyover (Southbound) to ensure long-term integrity and safety.
-
Pasay City: High-visibility lane marking applications in the Tramo area to improve traffic flow and motorist safety.
In alignment with the directives of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., Secretary Dizon emphasized that the department is prioritizing the swift completion of this first phase to minimize future public inconvenience.
“We are operating under the President’s strict orders to fast-track the road network’s rehabilitation without compromising quality,” said Secretary Dizon. “By working 24/7 during the Holy Week break, we are maximizing the lower traffic volume to deliver a smoother, safer EDSA for the commuting public.”
The DPWH confirmed that Phase I of the EDSA Rehabilitation remains ahead of its original timeline and is officially slated for completion in July 2026. The department continues to coordinate with the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) to manage traffic rerouting and ensure that all affected lanes are reopened promptly by April 6.
Motorists are advised to exercise caution when passing through construction zones and to follow temporary directional signage.
