PH to champion energy, food security, and regional safety at 48th ASEAN Summit

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. announced that the Philippines, alongside fellow member states of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), will prioritize energy security, food security, and the safety of Southeast Asian nationals worldwide at the upcoming 48th ASEAN Summit scheduled for Friday in Cebu.

In a video message ahead of the summit, President Marcos emphasized the importance of addressing urgent regional and global challenges through constructive dialogue and collective action.

“The Philippines, together with other ASEAN member states, will engage in productive dialogue and exchange views on regional and global issues, mindful of the problems confronting ASEAN peoples today,” the President said.

As chair of the summit, President Marcos will lead discussions aimed at strengthening regional preparedness, ensuring a stable energy supply, and accelerating energy diversification. These efforts are intended to reduce the region’s vulnerability to external shocks, including those linked to ongoing geopolitical tensions such as the conflict in the Middle East.

The President also underscored the need to enhance regional food security by maintaining the free flow of essential goods and implementing measures to support farmers as well as micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs).

In addition, he reaffirmed the Philippines’ commitment to safeguarding ASEAN nationals across the globe, stressing that their welfare remains a top priority amid evolving global conditions.

President Marcos further reiterated the country’s dedication to ASEAN’s founding principles—peaceful coexistence, mutual respect, and cooperation for shared benefit—highlighting the importance of unity in achieving meaningful progress.

“As one region, our efforts will truly be effective on the basis of a unified approach and collective vision,” he said. “Through these actions, we will embrace an ASEAN where its peoples enjoy a secure, peaceful, and stable future.”

The Philippines also extends a warm welcome to all delegates, showcasing its renowned hospitality rooted in rich cultural heritage, longstanding traditions, and the openness of its people.

The 2026 ASEAN Summit will be held under the theme: “Navigating Our Future, Together.”
