The Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) reinforced the competency, quality, and standardization of domestic seafarer as key priority withe the conduct of the “2026 2nd Quarterly Calibration Workshop on the Design and Development of Assessment Tools and Training Program Standards”.
The activity on May 25, 2026 formally opened with the Oath-Taking Ceremony of newly appointed Pool of Trainers (POTs) and Panel of Examiners (POEs), led by Deputy Administrator for Planning Ms. Nenita S. Atienza, who also stressed the vital role of trainers and assessors in developing a globally competitive, competent, and safety-conscious maritime workforce.
The workshop was formally opened by Manpower Development Service (MDS) Director Jose Louie B. Banua, also relaying the congratulatory message from Deputy Administrator for Operations RADM Loumer P. Bernabe AFP (Ret).
Scheduled from 25 to 29 May 2026, the workshop aims to enhance MARINA’s training and assessment framework for domestic seafarers through the development and calibration of updated assessment tools and training program standards.
The activity covers competency programs for both the Engine and Deck Departments — from Motorman to Marine Diesel Mechanic 2, and from Boat Captain 1 to Major Patron — ensuring that maritime personnel remain equipped with the knowledge, technical skills, and competencies needed to meet evolving industry demands and maritime safety standards.
A total of eighteen (18) Pool of Trainers and eleven (11) Panel of Examiners are participating in the activity, supporting MARINA’s continuing efforts to uphold excellence, professionalism, and safety across the Philippine maritime sector.
