President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. will undertake an historic official visit to Canada from July 1 to 4, 2026, marking a significant milestone in the strengthening of diplomatic and economic ties between the two nations. The visit comes at the exclusive invitation of Canadian Prime Minister Mark Joseph Carney.
This momentous occasion represents the first official visit by a sitting Philippine President to Canada in over a decade, following the late President Benigno S. Aquino III’s visit in 2015.
President Marcos and Prime Minister Carney are scheduled to hold bilateral talks focused on deepening the Philippines-Canada partnership across several high-priority sectors. Key agenda items include:
-
Defense & Security: Assessing current engagements to foster peace, security, and stability in the Indo-Pacific region.
-
Economic Resilience: Expanding mutual trade and investment while reinforcing collaboration in energy security and critical minerals.
-
Regional Leadership: Discussing strategic priorities for the Southeast Asian region under the Philippines’ upcoming ASEAN Chairship. Canada has been a dedicated ASEAN Dialogue Partner since 1977 and a Strategic Partner since 2023.
A primary objective of the four-day visit is promoting the Philippines as a premier investment destination. President Marcos will lead high-level roundtable discussions with Canadian business executives and institutional investors.
The administration will actively pitch opportunities in high-growth industries critical to the Philippines’ economic development, including:
-
Information Technology and Business Process Management (IT-BPM)
-
Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Digital Innovation
-
Critical Infrastructure and Renewable Energy
-
Critical Minerals Exploration and Processing
Accompanied by First Lady Louise Araneta-Marcos, the President will travel to Vancouver, British Columbia, to host a special gathering for the Filipino community. This engagement serves to recognize the profound cultural and economic contributions of overseas Filipinos to both nations, which remain the bedrock of the bilateral relationship.
This historic visit follows the 75th anniversary of Philippines-Canada diplomatic relations celebrated in 2024. Built on a foundation of shared democratic values, robust people-to-people connections, and a mutual commitment to a free and open Indo-Pacific, this visit is poised to chart a dynamic new chapter for both nations.
