President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. is set to embark on a vital working visit to Singapore from July 14 to 16, aiming to strengthen bilateral relations and deepen economic and regional cooperation with one of the Philippines’ closest partners in Southeast Asia.
In a Palace press briefing, Presidential Communications Office (PCO) Undersecretary and Palace Press Officer Claire Castro emphasized the strategic timing of the trip. The visit takes place as Singapore prepares to assume the chairmanship of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) next year, making close coordination on regional priorities a top agenda item.
“This is part of the government’s push for stronger bilateral relations between the Philippines and Singapore, which will serve as the next chair of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations next year,” Castro said.
During the three-day visit, President Marcos is scheduled to pay a courtesy call on Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong. The two leaders are expected to discuss expanding cooperation across several critical sectors, including trade and investment, environmental initiatives, healthcare, and regional and global development. They will also reaffirm their shared commitment to ASEAN centrality and regional stability.
“The two leaders will continue to promote the expansion of ties between the Philippines and Singapore to create more opportunities for our citizens and strengthen cooperation on regional and global issues,” Castro added.
As part of the administration’s aggressive economic drive, President Marcos will participate in a private roundtable discussion hosted by the Milken Institute at the Philippine Embassy in Singapore. The President will engage directly with prominent business leaders and international investors to showcase the country’s economic momentum, particularly following the Philippines’ recognition as an upper-middle-income economy.
Accompanying the President, First Lady Louise Araneta-Marcos will deliver a keynote message at the Global Economic Cooperation East Summit. The First Lady is attending at the invitation of the Future Economic Cooperation Council—an India-based economic platform that unites government and corporate leaders to advance global strategic economic cooperation.
The working visit underscores the Marcos administration’s commitment to proactive diplomacy, regional leadership, and securing high-value foreign investments to sustain the nation’s economic growth.
