Global liquor giant Emperador Inc. is significantly bolstering its international presence with strategic expansions across key markets. The company is increasing its vineyard holdings in Spain by an additional 470 hectares, strengthening its foothold in Mexico through a recent acquisition, and doubling its distillery footprint in Scotland. These moves underscore Emperador’s ambitious global aspirations and pave the way for substantial growth in the coming years.
Winston Co, President and CEO of Emperador Inc., stated, “Our ongoing expansions in the United Kingdom, Spain, and Mexico are testaments to our unwavering resolve to pursue our global aspirations.”
In Spain, this substantial vineyard expansion will dramatically increase Emperador’s grape farming capacity, building upon its current output of approximately 17 million kilos per annum. This development comes as Emperador’s leading brandy brand, Terry Centenario, demonstrates robust performance in the Spanish market, recording a 7% volume growth and a 10.8% value growth in the first quarter of the year, according to consumer consumption data. This performance is particularly noteworthy given the overall Spanish spirits market contracted by around 6.3% during the same period.
Emperador’s expansion in Mexico has been solidified through a recent acquisition by its subsidiary, Casa Pedro Domecq. This acquisition includes the highly regarded mezcal brands Los Danzantes and Alipus, owned by Destileria Los Danzantes. Both brands have been recognized as top-selling and top-trending mezcal brands in recent industry surveys. Destileria Los Danzantes operates within the burgeoning artisanal mezcal segment, which has experienced a 6% annual growth rate from 2017 to 2022 and is projected to continue its upward trajectory. Emperador anticipates launching Los Danzantes and Alipus in the Philippines later this year.
Meanwhile, in the United Kingdom, significant progress is being made in Scotland. The expansion of The Dalmore distillery in Alness is on track to double the brand’s production capacity and introduce an enhanced visitor experience. Furthermore, Emperador is significantly expanding its whisky maturation complex at the Invergordon distillery, doubling its size from 45.4 hectares to 92 hectares. This expansion will enable the grain distillery to accommodate an additional 1.5 million casks of maturing whisky.
The ongoing expansion of Whyte & Mackay, Emperador’s wholly-owned subsidiary in the UK, continues to play a crucial role in meeting the increasing global demand for its single malt whiskies.
Emperador’s strategic global initiatives have contributed to a strong start to the year, with the company reporting a 6.5% growth in net income, amounting to PhP 1.85 billion for the first quarter of 2025.
