Hundreds of Overseas Filipino Workers in the UK benefit from “Alagang OWWA” Wellness and Membership Caravan

Hundreds of Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) in London and across the United Kingdom received vital support and services today at the “Alagang OWWA: Wellness and Membership Caravan.” The event, held at the Novotel London West in Hammersmith, brought the Philippine government’s commitment to protecting and empowering its global workforce directly to its citizens abroad.

The caravan was spearheaded by a high-level delegation, including Migrant Workers Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac and Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) Administrator Patricia Yvonne Caunan. Their presence underscores the administration’s dedication to bringing government services closer to OFWs, fulfilling the directive of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. to ensure their welfare.

“The ‘Alagang OWWA’ caravan is a tangible expression of ‘Serbisyong May Puso’—Service with a Heart,” said Secretary Cacdac. “We are here not just to process documents, but to ensure our kababayans feel the genuine care and support of their government. Their sacrifices are the bedrock of our nation’s economy, and we must match their dedication with our own.”

Administrator Caunan highlighted the significance of the event, stating, “Our goal is simple: to make sure every OFW has easy access to their benefits, from membership renewal and social services to wellness checks and financial literacy programs. This comprehensive approach is key to their success and well-being while they are away from home.”

The event provided a wide array of services, including:

OWWA Membership and Renewal: Facilitating access to repatriation, educational, and social benefit programs.

Welfare and Social Services: On-site consultations for employment issues and personal concerns.

Wellness Checks: Basic health screenings and stress management advice.

Financial Literacy: Seminars on responsible saving, investment, and reintegration programs.

The caravan was graced by First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos and Philippine Ambassador to the United Kingdom Teodoro L. Locsin Jr. Their attendance further emphasized the whole-of-government approach to OFW welfare.

The success of the London event is part of a broader, global initiative to strengthen the support system for OFWs worldwide, reflecting the priority the current administration places on their contribution to national development.
